Gaps exist between Peter and the Host Okaasan’s view of the homestay. In this page we will examine these gaps.

Whose fault are these gaps? No one’s. Gaps like these are perfectly normal in homestay situations. In fact, they are to be expected. How did the gaps happen? Neither Peter nor the host family was deliberately doing anything wrong. Each was acting correctly, as each saw the situation. Yet in spite of their best efforts, neither could understand adequately what the other was really communicating.
